Help shape the future of workplace eye health

The Eye Health Employer Scheme provides a simple and practical way to strengthen your wellbeing offering and demonstrates your commitment to employee health.

Eye health matters across every workforce, including for employees who do not wear glasses and may not realise they still need regular eye tests. By signing up, your organisation will strengthen its employee wellbeing offering, access ready-to-use resources, encourage regular eye tests and demonstrate its commitment to the Eye Health Employer Pledge.

Why sign up

Not everyone who is entitled to an eye test takes advantage of it, and not everyone who needs an eye test takes the time to book one.

Regular sight tests can help detect a range of health conditions at an early stage, increasing treatment options, improving health outcomes, and reducing sickness absence. By signing up to this scheme, you make it easier for employees to access the care they need while demonstrating your commitment to their health and wellbeing.

Sign up today and encourage your employees to attend regular eye tests, and show that you support better eye health and that you genuinely care about employee wellbeing. When you sign up, you will be provided with documentation to support you in becoming an Eye Health Employer.

Show employees you care about their wellbeing

Routine eye tests can help identify changes in eye health before symptoms are noticed. The welcome pack explains that clear vision does not always mean healthy eyes.

Strengthen your wellbeing offer

Eye health is relevant to all employees, but it is often missing from workplace wellbeing programmes. Signing up gives you a practical way to address that gap.

Support staff with confidence

If an employee receives a diagnosis or needs follow-up, managers and HR teams need to respond well. Your materials already recognise the importance of flexibility, signposting, confidentiality and ongoing support.

How it works

Your organisation joins the Eye Health Employer scheme.
  1. Receive your employer toolkit
Ready-made materials will be sent to help launch the scheme internally.
  1. Share the campaign with employees
Use template emails, posters and digital resources to encourage employees to book routine eye tests. Save money with reduced sick leave costs.
  1. Support employees well
Use our guidance to help managers and HR teams respond confidently if employees have questions.
  2. Show your commitment
Display your Eye Health Employer recognition and share your support for employee eye health.

You do not need to become an eye health expert

As you would expect, it is not your role to diagnose conditions or give medical advice. The scheme helps organisations to encourage routine eye tests, signpost to trusted sources, and respond supportively if an employee needs help.

Whether or not your organisation currently fund eye tests, the scheme is designed to work alongside your existing approach. You’re not being asked to introduce or change employee benefits. Simply committing to help close the gap between employees who have regular eye tests every two years and those who do not.

“We want more employers to help staff understand that clear vision does not always mean healthy eyes. A routine eye test can be a small appointment with a significant impact. For some employees, it may simply mean updated glasses and fewer headaches. For others, it may lead to earlier advice, monitoring or referral for a condition they had not noticed.”
