Helping employers protect the eye health of their workforce

The Eye Health Employer Scheme will support organisations to promote regular eye tests, improve awareness of serious eye conditions and help more people access earlier detection.

A simple way for employers to make eye health part of staff wellbeing

The Eye Health Employer Scheme is being developed by Ocular Melanoma UK to recognise organisations that actively promote eye health and encourage regular eye testing across their workforce.

Promote regular eye tests

Employers will be supported with communications, campaign resources and practical guidance to encourage staff to attend routine eye tests.

Recognise good practice

Participating organisations will work towards becoming an Eye Health Employer, showing a visible commitment to workforce wellbeing.

Build meaningful partnerships

The scheme will create opportunities for employers, optical providers and supporters to help improve awareness and access at scale.

What it means to be an Eye Health Employer

Employers will be asked to meet a clear set of standards developed with clinical input. The aim is to make eye health more visible, practical and accessible in the workplace.

The scheme is not just about screen use or VDU vouchers. It is about encouraging routine eye testing and helping staff understand why eye health matters.

1

Communicate clearly

Share trusted eye health information with staff throughout the year.

2

Encourage routine testing

Prompt staff to attend regular eye tests, not only when symptoms appear.

3

Improve access

Explore practical support such as vouchers, signposting or provider partnerships.

4

Support employees

Use guidance to better support staff affected by eye conditions or sight changes.
