Health Care Professional Resources
Ocular Melanoma UK (OMUK) is the only dedicated UK charity for people affected by ocular (uveal) melanoma. This page is designed to provide health care professionals with quick access to information, resources, and support that can help you in your practice.
OMUK works alongside clinicians, researchers, and specialist centres to ensure patients and families receive the best possible care and support. If you would like to collaborate with us, request resources, or receive updates tailored for professionals, please contact us.
Overview
Ocular melanoma is rare and biologically distinct from cutaneous melanoma. It includes two main types:
- Uveal melanoma – arising in the choroid, ciliary body, or iris.
- Conjunctival melanoma – originating from the conjunctiva.
Unlike cutaneous melanoma, ocular melanoma has a unique biology and metastatic pattern, meaning management strategies differ.

Resources
Supporting your patients
A diagnosis of ocular melanoma can be frightening and isolating. Patients may face sight loss, loss of an eye, or concerns about prognosis. Genetic tumour testing may provide useful information but can also increase anxiety, and patients often need support in understanding and coping with results.
Patients appreciate honesty, compassion, and willingness to learn more about this rare cancer. You play a vital role in providing reassurance and continuity of care.
