Rare Disease Day
Rare Disease Day is dedicated to ensuring more people know about the symptoms and lived experience of those with rare conditions like ocular melanoma. It is also a time for us to use our voice to improve wider knowledge, advocate for better care pathways and improve support for anyone affected.
We hope you will join us in bringing ocular melanoma into focus and continue your support into the future.
This Rare Disease Day, we were fortunate to talk to a range of radio stations about ocular melanoma as a rare condition. Our Chief Executive Officer & Founder, Jo Gumbs, was joined by our members, Jamie and Carol, who shared their lived experience with this rare cancer.
Both Jamie and Carol spent time explaining the impact of having a rare condition in relation to accessing treatment and how that has led to them both crowdfunding for life extending treatment.
Here at Ocular Melanoma UK, we believe everyone affected by ocular melanoma should have access to treatment, support and better care pathways. Jamie and Carol’s experiences highlight exactly why this is so vital.
