Dr Sharon Cook

Sharon is a Chartered Health Psychologist. She has worked in Health Psychology research and practice for the last 21 years holding a variety of private, academic and clinical NHS roles. Since qualifying in 2005 Sharon has been responsible for developing a specialist Health Psychology Service for patients with eye cancer at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital (2005-2009). She also held a Medical Research Council (MRC) Population Health Scientist Research Fellowship and has taught medical and psychology students at the University of Liverpool and University of Central Lancashire. She currently works part-time in an NHS Hospital Clinical Psychology Department.

Sharon’s area of interest is in understanding how people respond to illness. She has worked with people with many different health conditions including ocular melanoma. She believes that people can (and should be helped to) self-manage the challenges and difficult life changes that often accompany ill-health. Therefore, Sharon’s clinical work focuses on supporting people affected by illness to come to terms with their diagnosis, manage health-related worries and concerns, and explore ways of adapting or changing their health-related behaviour. Sharon has known and worked alongside Laura for ten years and can offer the service described above when a ‘conflict of interest’ arises.

Please note, Laura would be unable to support two people from the same family as there would be a conflict of interest. If this is the case, Laura will pass your referral form with your permission to Dr Sharon Cook
